Recently, when talking to a friend he told me exactly the words below:
” I used to look at my garden and feel absolutely nothing. Just a patch of grass, a few weeds doing their thing, and a couple of forgotten pots. It wasn’t exactly the kind of place that made me want to sit outside with a cuppa….. I don’t know what to do but also don’t want to spend a ton of money on it….”
I told him to mess around a bit… start throwing some fairy lights here and then and see how it goes…

A couple of weeks later, he texted me with something similar to “hey…my garden went from a “mehh” to “ might actually sit out here in the evening..”
He did add some solar ones, so he won’t mess with plugs, wires and electricity at the moment. It’s easy, just stick em and let the sun do the rest.
Then, he apparently, got his hands on some old pallet from a neighbor… after some sand and varnish, he stacked them into a makeshift bench….
Another text, a couple of days later came with the following:
“- Can I shove a plant in this?”
– What’s this?
– “I don’t know! It was in the trash!”
the answer is usually yes. …

Old tins, a broken teapot, even an old pair of boots….all perfect little planters. Poked some drainage holes in the bottom, filled them up with soil, and suddenly your garden had way more personality.
He’s now grabbing some rocks around and painting them. Yup! Rocks! As far as I know, he collected em from the beach, in different sizes and different patterns.
Some of them have also words like “Slow down…” which I must admit, it’s fantastic.
The next steps he told me will be to create a pathway and attract some birds… I’ll keep you folks updated! 🙂
